GENERAL INFORMATION

During conversations many features can only be used by first pressing the hookswitch. To do this, depress the hookswitch quickly, then release it within a half second.

Caution: If you hold the hookswitch down too long, your call will be disconnected.

If you telephone is equipped with a flash or tap button, you should use that button instead of the hookswitch. These buttons are timed to give you exactly the right amount of disconnect time to use with calling features.

Some features instruct you to use the * button. If you have a rotary telephone, dial 11 instead of using the *.

Some features instruct you to use the # button. If you have a rotary telephone, dial 11 before the code instead of the # button after the code.

USE YOUR TONE SERVICE

In today's world you are limited without the use of a touch tone telephone. More and more service establishments are using automated attendants, including banks, doctors and retail businesses. All lines are equipped for tone service at no added charge.


 

Call Waiting


Signals you (beeps) that you are receiving another call while you are engaged in a telephone conversation. You can answer the incoming call and talk privately without losing the original party. You can also alternate between calls.

TO USE THE CALL WAITING FEATURE:


 

AUTOMATIC RECALL


Allows you to dial a code and have a call automatically returned to the last party who called or attempted to call you.

TO USE:
Dial *69. You will hear a message telling you the number of the last incoming call. If you wish to return the call, press 1.

CUSTOMER ORGINATED TRACE


Customer Orginated Trace allows you to automatically request a trace of an obscene, threatening or harassing call. After receiving such a call, you simply dial a special code to have the calling party's phone number printed at the Telephone Company.

BENEFITS:
Helps you put an end to harassing and offending calls. Enhances your security and privacy.

TO ADD THIS FEATURE:
Call the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department or Allegan County Sheriff's Department, to obtain a complaint number. Sign a release form at our Business Office.

TO ACTIVATE:
When you want a call traced, hang up after the call, pick up the receiver and dial *57 (Rotary 1157) to have the caller's number printed, and at your request, reported to the proper Law Enforcement Agency.

NOTE: This service will automatically cancel in 60 days.



 

SELECTIVE CALL ACCEPTANCE


Selective Call Acceptance allows you to prevent incoming calls from ringing in on your telephone. Only callers you have selected can override the feature and ring your telephone.

BENEFITS:
Prevents unwanted interruptions, particularly solicitaiton calls. You can still receive important calls. Selected callers (friends and relatives) can still reach you by dialing your number.

TO USE SELECTIVE CALL ACCEPTANCE:
To activate this feature, dial *62 (Rotary 1162), listen for an announcement telling you whether the feature is currently on or off. The recorded voice will then tell you how many (if any) numbers are currently stored in your acceptance list. Follow the voice instructions and dial 3 to turn the feature on (if it is currently off), or turn the feature off (if it is currently on).

TO HEAR THE PHONE NUMBERS ON YOUR LIST:
Dial 1
After the list is read, voice instructions will follow.

NOTE: Selected numbers stay in storage unless you change or delete it. Deactivation of Selective Call Acceptance will not erase your numbers.



 

AUTOMATIC CALL BACK


Automatic Call Back allows you to dial a code to have your phone continuously attempt to redial a number. When the line is free, you will be alerted with a special ring, and a call will automatically be made.

BENEFITS:
Eliminates the frustration of continuously redialing numbers and receiving annoying busy signals.

Removes the need to look up or remember the phone number during redial attempts.

TO ACTIVATE:
After you receive a busy signal, hang up or press the hookswitch, dial *66 (Rotary 1166), then hang up again. Your phone will keep trying to ring the number for 30 minutes, unless you deactivate Automatic Call Back.

TO DEACTIVATE:
To deactivate calling feature, dial *86 (Rotary 1186)



 

CALLER ID NUMBER OR NAME/NUMBER


Solve the mystery of who's calling with Caller ID from Drenthe Telephone Company.

An unpublished number does not include blocking of caller ID. Permanent blocking is available as a feature.

BENEFITS:
With Caller ID, you can see the caller's number before you answer the phone. Caller ID displays the caller's number on a display unit attached to your phone. You decide which calls to answer.

NOTE: You will need a display unit along with the Caller ID Service. Display Units are sold at our business office. Costs per unit range from $30.00 and up.

RECORDING


Informs your friends and business associates of your new telephone number when you move.

TO GET A RECORDING:
Call Drenthe Telephone Company before your number is disconnected to request a recording.

NOTE: The recording stays on and monthly charges continue until you call to request it disconnected.



 

THREE WAY CALLING


Three-Way Calling allows you to add a third party to an existing telphone conversation.

BENEFITS
Reduces the need for callbacks when trying to confirm plans and schedules. Brings families and friends together.

TO MAKE A THREE WAY CALL:
Make the first call then press and release the hookswitch to put your first call on hold. You will hear dial tone. Dial the number of the third party you wish to add to the call. When the call is answered, press and release the hookswitch to complete the three way call.



 

SPEED DIALING


You can store your frequently called numbers and call them by dialing only one or two digits.

BENEFITS:
Eliminates the need to look up or remember telephone numbers. Saves time when dialing numbers, especially long distance numbers. Allows fast, accurate dialing of emergency numbers.

TO SET UP SPEED CALLING NUMBERS:
8 number option: Dial *74 (Rotary 1174) for 1-Digit Speed Calling (codes 2-9)
30 number option: Dial *75(Rotary 1175) for 2-Digit Speed Calling (codes 20-49)

Listen for dial tone. Enter speed calling code(2-9 or 20-49). Dial desired telephone number, depress # (Rotary, wait 4 seconds after dialing). Hang up.

TO USE SPEED CALLING:
Dial desired speed calling code (2-9 or 20-49), then depress # (Rotary, wait 4 seconds after dialing you code).

TO CHANGE SPEED DIALING ENTRIES:
Repeat first five steps



 

VOICE MAIL


Records, stores, retrieves messages. No answering machine maintenance or tangled tapes.

Forwards your calls to a "Mailbox" number after a set number of rings, and/or if line is busy.

Call your Mailbox from any touch tone telephone to receive or delete your messages, or change your recording.

TO CHANGE PASSWORD, NAME, GREETING; RECEIVE, STORE & DELETE CALLS:
Dial your access number, and listen to the voice-furnished instructions.

TO LISTEN TO YOUR MESSAGES:
From your own phone, dial the access number.
From another phone, dial your access number, your telephone number and your password.

Press 1 (to listen to your messages)

Follow instructions to delete, review, etc.

NOTE: Available with touch tone service only (Tone service is activated on all lines. For a small additional fee, we can provide remote notification.



 

CALL REJECTION

(ANONYMOUS)

Lets you refuse calls from callers who block their numbers.

HOW TO USE:

  1. Pick up the handset and listen for the dial tone.
  2. Press *77 (On a rotary phone, dial 1177)
  3. Listen for a confirmation tone or announcement. Hang up.

WHEN SOMEONE CALLS:

  1. Callers who have blocked the display of their number or name will hear an announcement that you do not accept anonymous calls and they should remove Blocking and call again.
  2. All other calls will ring through as usual.

TO CANCEL:

  1. Press *87 (On a rotary phone, dial 1187.)
  2. Listen for a confirmation tone or announcement.
  3. Hang up.
 
(SELECTIVE)

Blocks unwanted calls from disturbing you.

HOW TO USE:

  1. Pick up the handset and listen for the dial tone.
  2. Press *60
  3. Listen for an announcement telling you whether the feature is currently on or off. The recorded voice will then tell you how many (if any) numbers are currently stored on your rejection list.
  4. Follow the voice instructions and dial 3 to turn the feature on (if it is currently off), or turn the feature off (if it is currently on).

TO ADD THE LAST CALLER TO YOUR FORWARD LIST:
Press #01#

TO HEAR THE PHONE NUMBERS ON YOU LIST:

  1. Dial 1
  2. After the list is read, voice instructions will follow. TO ADD A NUMBER TO YOUR LIST:

  4. Follow the voice instructions you'll hear. You can store up to 31 numbers.

TO REMOVE A NUMBER FROM YOU LIST:

  1. Press *
  2. Follow the voice instructions to remove any or all of those numbers from you rejection list.

TO HEAR INSTRUCTIONS AGAIN:
Dial 0

WHEN SOMEONE CALLS:
If your service is turned on, callers who are on you rejection list will hear anannouncement that your number is not accepting calls at this time. All other calls will ring through as usual.



 

WARM LINE


Warm Line allows you to call a predesignated number by simply lifting the handset.

BENEFITS:
Eliminates need to remember emergency numbers. Emergency calls can be placed quickly and automatically. Enhances safety and security for people who are alone (particularly children , elderly, or a sick relative).

TO USE WARM LINE FEATURE:
Lift handset and Wait. (Within 30 seconds the predesignated number will be dialed automatically.) If you do not wish to dial the predesignated number, you may dial any other number before 30 seconds have elapsed.

NOTE: The predesignated number is selected by you when you order Warm Line service. To change this number, you must contact Drenthe Telephone Company.



 

DISTINCTIVE RINGING


Announces important callers with a special ring.

HOW TO USE:

  1. Pick up the handset and listen for the dial tone.
  2. Press *61
  3. Listen for an announcement telling you whether the feature is currently on or off. The recorded voice will then tell you how many (if any) numbers are currently stored on you list.
  4. Follow the voice instructions and dial 3 to turn the feature on (if it is currently off), or turn the feature Off (if it is currently on.)

TO ADD THE LAST CALLER TO YOU VIP LIST:
Press #01#

TO HEAR THE PHONE NUMBERS ON YOUR LIST:

  1. Dial 1.
  2. After the list is read, voice instruction will follow.

  2. Follow the voice instructions you'll hear. You can store up to 31 phone numbers on you VIP list.

WHEN SOMEONE CALLS:

  1. If the call is from someone on your VIP list, you'll hear a special ring. All other calls will have a normal ringing pattern.
  2. If you have Call Waiting and get a call from a number on your list while you're on another call, you'll hear a special Call Waiting tone. All other calls are signaled by a normal tone.
